The journey north unveils the rugged grandeur of Damaraland, home to the ancient rock engravings of Twyfelfontein and the elusive desert-adapted elephants. Day by Day Itinerary
Upon arrival in Windhoek, meet your private guide and begin your adventure with a scenic drive south into the Kalahari Desert. The journey takes you through open grasslands and gently undulating dunes to Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch, where the red sands and golden grasses create an otherworldly landscape. Settle in before an afternoon game drive to seek out oryx, springbok, and ostrich across the rolling dunes. End your first day with a sundowner as the desert sky blazes into colour, followed by dinner under the stars.

After breakfast, travel southwest via Mariental and Maltahöhe toward the Namib Desert, the world’s oldest. Descend the escarpment and watch as the scenery transforms into a sea of towering dunes and endless desert plains. Arrive at Desert Homestead Lodge (or similar) in the late afternoon and relax with sweeping views of the desert. Enjoy a quiet evening surrounded by the stillness of the Namib, the air cooling quickly as stars begin to shimmer overhead.

Rise early for one of Namibia’s most iconic experiences — the dunes of Sossusvlei. Drive through the park in the soft morning light, stopping to climb Dune 45 or the mighty Big Daddy, where panoramic views stretch to the horizon. Explore Deadvlei, a surreal white clay pan dotted with ancient blackened trees, then enjoy a picnic breakfast surrounded by the silence of the desert. Visit Sesriem Canyon in the afternoon before returning to your lodge for a relaxed evening and dinner.

After breakfast, embark on a long but fascinating journey to the Atlantic coast. The drive takes you past the Tropic of Capricorn, the rugged Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons, and endless plains that stretch toward the horizon. Stop for photos and coffee in the desert hamlet of Solitaire, famous for its apple pie, before reaching the cool, sea-swept air of Swakopmund. This coastal town offers palm-lined streets, ocean breezes, and a touch of old-world charm. Dinner can be enjoyed at one of Swakopmund’s excellent restaurants — from seafood at Jetty 1905 to casual beachside fare at Tiger Reef.

A day of exhilarating contrasts awaits. Begin with a catamaran cruise from Walvis Bay, watching dolphins play alongside the boat and seals clamber aboard in search of treats. After a delicious seafood lunch, switch to 4×4 vehicles for a Desert Adventure into the dunes of Sandwich Harbour, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Namib Desert in a breathtaking union of sand and surf. Return to Swakopmund in the afternoon with time to relax or explore the town at your leisure.

Today you head north along the Skeleton Coast, passing salt pans and the shipwreck of the Zeila, before turning inland toward Damaraland. If time allows, stop at Cape Cross Seal Colony, home to over 80,000 Cape fur seals — a sight (and sound) to remember. Continue through rugged desert scenery to Twyfelfontein Country Lodge, where you’ll set out on an afternoon elephant tracking excursion in search of the famous desert-adapted elephants. Return to the lodge for a well-earned dinner beneath the stars.

After breakfast, visit the ancient Twyfelfontein rock engravings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site showcasing some of the world’s oldest examples of San rock art. Continue north to Palmwag Lodge, set among spectacular landscapes of rolling hills and dry riverbeds. En route, stop at a traditional Himba village to learn about the customs and daily life of this proud, semi-nomadic people. Arrive at Palmwag in the late afternoon and relax with a drink as the desert gives way to twilight.

Travel east today, crossing the dramatic Grootberg Pass with its breathtaking views before descending toward the plains of Etosha National Park. Stop in the town of Outjo to refuel or pick up supplies before entering the park through the Anderson Gate. Settle into Okaukuejo Resort, located near a famous floodlit waterhole where wildlife gathers day and night. This evening, enjoy dinner at the lodge before watching elephants, rhinos, and other animals come to drink under the glow of spotlights.

Spend a full day exploring Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s greatest wildlife sanctuaries. With your guide, visit a series of waterholes and grassland areas where you can spot herds of elephants, zebra, springbok, and wildebeest — and perhaps lions or leopards if luck is on your side. Pause for a picnic lunch inside the park before returning to Okaukuejo for another evening of unforgettable wildlife viewing.

Depart Etosha and travel south toward Okonjima Reserve, home of the renowned AfriCat Foundation. This 22,000-hectare reserve is dedicated to the conservation of Namibia’s big cats. Arrive at Okonjima Plains Camp in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon leopard-tracking excursion, where you’ll have the chance to see these elusive predators up close while learning about AfriCat’s vital work. Toast your final evening in Namibia with a memorable dinner overlooking the plains.

After breakfast, begin the final leg of your journey south to Windhoek. Reflect on the experiences of the past 11 days — the red dunes of Sossusvlei, the cool Atlantic air of Swakopmund, the rugged wilderness of Damaraland, and the wildlife drama of Etosha. Arrive in Windhoek by midday, where your guide will assist with your onward transfer to the international airport.
